Freshwater
Monduran dam Big Barra

The morning started a bit slow with a few half hearted hits for both the guys from cautious barra but things got better as the day grew longer.

Greg had a solid hit from a good fish and I suggested he change tactics from a soft plastic to a suspending lure and hang it in the zone to get a hookup.

This can be a deadly method but it takes patience to fish this way as the retrieve is very slow with long pauses.

After only a couple of casts and what seemed like a long time the stationary lure was engulfed by a big rampaging fish.

The fish ran around a few trees and with some good rod work and a pursuit with the electric motor the big fish was finally landed to much relief of all on the boat.

The big Barra went a touch over 124cm and would have been around 28 kilo or 60lb on the old scale and after a couple of quick pics and careful handling she was released to fight another day.

Mark hooked up next after switching to the same method but sadly after a couple of jumps the Barra spat the lure back at us.

Then it was Greg who hooked up again and he landed a smaller fish at close to a meter that seemed small after his first barra.

They guys had 7 good bites from Barra for the day but with pulled hooks and jumped fish sadly only 2 fish were landed but that's barra fishing.

Greg and Mark it was good to have you guys on the boat again and I hope your trip on the house boat is fun and you encounter plenty of good Barra at Monduran dam.
