Monduran

Good mate Pete Cherrett put me onto the Jerry Brown hollow spliceable gel spun braided spectra in 80 pound he was making wind on leaders from.
I have caught plenty of Barra up to and over a meter on these leaders so far without failure so I thought I'd show everyone how to set it up.
Her's a couple from the other day on Lively Lures Arfura Barra shallow and the 150 using this system.
They are a bit time consuming to make but once made they can be changed over if there is a bust of in no time at all with limited lost fishing time, simply loop to loop and new one on with only a short double needed in your main line.
They cast better than any other leader system I have used in the past and there is no bulky knot clunking through thre guides of the rod and work equally well on bait casting or spin outfits.
Firstly here's a pic of the gear you'll need to make the leaders.
I cut a lenght of about 500 mmm and then form the top loop with the loop puller and at the bottom I come out from the main section and then re-enter to finish then pull it up snug so the tag end goes back inside the main splice, this gives extra bite for the braid to grab onto then glue with Zap ca glue.
Then at the bottom of the braid I insert the Hollow needle and take it all the way up to the bottom of the splice and insert the 60,80 or 100 pound Penn 10x leader and bring the point out just below the where the splice ends and pull the needle right through.
You then have the needle lenght of leader material poking out of the braid, then carefully slide it back until it enters the braid, slide the braid down so it is all snug and glue all except the last 10-20mm at the end.
Once the glue dries which only takes about 30 seconds whip finish the end where leader meets the braid and glue and your ready to fish the leader.
This big barra was caught and released in September at Monduran while I was fishing with good mate Erick Grell from Egrell Rodz who also uses wind on leaders made from Dacron,I was using the hollow braid system and it fought hard amongst the timber without failure.
Give them a try they cast like nothing else I have ever used, are very strong and can be wound onto the spool of the reel.
If your interested in getting some of this great gear send Peter Williams an email at sales@gccr.com.au he can supply the needles and the braid.
