These fish are great fun to catch on conventional gear but it's fly fishing I enjoy the most when targeting them when conditions allow it.

It's a great challenge and plenty casts have to be made but it's certainly worth it when it all comes together and having a meter plus Barra jumping around on the end of a fly outfit is awesome fun.

Even the smaller fish hit hard and give a great battle on a 10 weight outfit and they make you work them all the way to the boat.

Once again it was the DK Dancer that did the job on this trip,I did use other flies but the Barra didn't show any interest in them, the Dancer moves so much in the water with short sharp strips they find it irresistible when put it's in front of them.

While up there I had the opportunity to have a fish with local guide Johnny Mitchell while Aussie Fishing Icon Rod "Harro" Harrison followed us around armed with his trusty cameras.

We set out to catch and release some Barra using spin gear for an article Harro is doing for Freshwater Fishing magazine.

We both managed to catch some fish and all had a good chat and shared some good laughs while out for the morning.

Johnny it was a pleasure sharing a boat with you and to Harro thanks for your hospitality for the time I was there.

Keep an eye out in the coming issue of Freshwater Fishing Magazine for Harro's article.
