I took the guys to a location that produces plenty of Trevally for my clients along with a variaty of other species, and with sounder readings like this you know their in for some fun.
Day one saw plenty of Trevally come onto the boat for pics and release but it was Long Tail Tuna they had come up from Sydney to target.
They did get to have a few casts at a small pod of xos long Tails in the 15-20kg class that popped up briefly but sadly they didn't managed to get a hookup.
We continued to search the Bay on the first day with no other tuna sighted, so a plan was put in place for the following day to get the guys connected to a Long Tail Tuna.
I selected an area that the Long Tails frequent at this time of year, then located the bait schools on my Lowrance X510c colour sounder.
I then had the guys casting pink[bubble gum] and Elbino shad Snap Back soft plastics on TT 1/2 and 3/4 oz jig heads down amongst the bait.
Mausi was the first to hookup on a nice fish that gave him a real battle, he did a great job and landed his first Long Tail Tuna.
Shunji was next to hookup but sadly after a couple of blistering runs the braid on his real parted and upon inspection we found that the line was scuffed from his previous trip reef fishing off Sydney heads.
Long Tail Tuna are a very powerfull fish and will expose a week link in tackle with their lightning speed runs and powerfull head shaking antics!! they are a magnificent fish to catch.
Shunji and Mausi it was very enjoyable guiding you guys onto some fun fish and your target species Long Tail Tuna!! see you in a few weeks.
