Fraser Coast Sportfishing : 2008 -2009 Season
2008-2009 Season

It's always hard to pick the best highlights out of a year's fishing but the stand out captures this year were the Fly and Lure casting Slams in one day by the anglers I fished.

Insun Kim is a very keen Fly fisherman and regular client of mine from Japan, he landed the first ever Flats Fly Fishing Slam on my boat with a nice Queenfish then a Giant Herring followed by a Golden Trevally and finished off with a small Tuna all sight cast to on the flats in the one day.

Regular South African client Dean landed and released Long Tail Tuna then Golden Trevally and finished with a Giant Herring on soft Plastics.

Fly fishing mates Chris and Paul fished with me again to capture a slam each on their day out on the Bay!! firstly Paul with Long Tail Tuna,Mac Tuna and Spotty Mackerel and Chris scoring Long Tail and Mac Tuna and a Golden Trevally on the flats to finish off with.

Scott and his Father Ross returned to fish with me for the 3RD year running and they sight cast, landed and released 16 Golden Trevally from 19 hookups on Fly and Snapbacks along with other species in 2 days.

Alan returned from Scotland to Fly fish with me again with his mate Brian and they arrived the same time as some very windy weather so I took them into the Mary River to sight cast too some Big Thread Fin Salmon which they really enjoyed.

I also had the pleasure of guiding good mate and USA Booking Agent Randall Bryett of [Gofish Australia.com and Australia America Fishing Connections] visiting from the US for a few days for some sight casting to Goldens along with spending a day on the the flats with good mates and fellow Barra Guide Rod [Harro] Harrison and Justin Nye.

Blair from Canada with a flats sight fished Long Tail Tuna that was eventually landed 2 kilometres out off the flats

Alex from South Carolina with a sight cast tailing Golden Trevally

Regular LongTail Tuna fisherman Shunji with one of his many LongTails for the season

Mark with a big Cobia caught and released on 30lb leader with a soft plastic

There were many other memorable captures for the year like this magnificent fly caught Diamond Trevally landed and released by Pete Cherrett while on a charter with his mates Steve and Jason.

Pete wrote and article on the tactics for Deep Fly Fishing with me in issue number 55 in Fly Life Magazine, this is a very rewarding way to fly fish when the surface activity or visibility isn't there for sight casting.

Hopefully the coming Spring/Summer season of 2009-2010 will be as good as 08-09 with plenty of Golden Trevally Queenfish,Giant Herring and Tuna to be cast too on the flats here in Hervey Bay.

The Freshwater wasn't to be out done with some great Barramundi,Saratoga and Bass captures for my clients.

The local Lakes are set to fire with good numbers of Barra as the weather warms into spring, these magnificent fish can also be targeted on Fly as well as lures.

The biggest Barramundi landed by a client in my boat for the year was caught and released by Greg a massive 124cm Monduran Dam Barra!!

Mathew took advantage of the great flights that are available to Hervey Bay from Melbourne and Sydney where he was studying,he arrived with a species list of Saratoga, Australian Bass and Golden Trevally, he hooked landed and released all of them along with a few other species for his trip

If your into Salt or Freshwater Fly or Lure casting Fraser Coast Sportfishing can arrange a charter to suite you needs.
Operating 2 purpose built boats you get the best fishing options available when visiting Hervey Bay and the Fraser Coast.

Fraser Coast Sportfishing : 2005-2006 Season
2005-2006 Season

The 2005-2006 season has been fantastic with many great fish being caught and released in both fresh and saltwater by my clients. Anglers of all skill levels are welcome on my boats and everyone from beginners to seasoned pros having been racking up some impressive captures. Take a look around at the reports and gallery and you will see the 'proof in the pudding'!

Over the past few I have guided many Australian and International anglers to many different species of fish here on the Fraser Island Coast. Using artifical Fly, Lure and Sportfishing methods some anglers have caught their first, biggest or best fish on the decks of my boats.

My guiding service operates here 12 months a year and fish such as Golden Trevally and Longtail tuna and many others can be caught here all year round.

For sight casting to Goldens and Queenfish the flats are best fished during the warmer months of the year from October to March.

There is also the possibility of catching an Indo Pacific Permit aka Snub-Nosed Dart here in the bay. The picture below shows the first one ever to be taken on a fly rod in Hervey Bay.

These warmer months also can get the dreaded North West and if the winds happens to blow hard I have a second boat set up for lake and river fishing where we target Barramundi, Aussie Bass and Saratoga.

Longtail tuna are usually in good numbers from February through to September both here close in the bay or down the inside of the island at Tin Can Bay.

Access to Hervey Bay has never been easier since the extension to the Hervey Bay Airport that now accommodates larger jets. Connecting flights from major cities around the globe that land in Sydney can fly direct to the Hervey Bay.

Hervey Bay is easily accessed being only 300 kilometers north of Brisbane on the east coast of Australia and a short flight from other big cities in Australia. Hervey Bay has just had it's airport upgraded to take bigger jets so now it's easier than ever before to get here with connecting flights from Sydney and Melbourne from as little as $69.00 one way.
