Pete was keen to get his first flats sight cast Golden Trevally he's caught plenty in deeper water on both fly and lures but every fly fisher wants to sight cast their Goldens.
I took Pete to a flat that produces regularly for tailig Goldens and the waiting game started, the cloud cover was going to make things difficult but not impossible.
First sign of the fish was a bow wave in very shallow water then the tail of a nice fish popped up and the boat was into position with the Minn Kota I-pilot for the cast.
Pete led the fish perfectly landing the cast a couple of meters in front of it's feeding path and got the hookup and game on.
The hookup was explosive as the fish ate the fly and realised something was wrong
After a great battle in skinny water he was holding his first sight cast Golden Trevally and very happy.
Insun flew in from Japan for some fly fishing but unfortunately he arrived the same time as a strong wind warning and heavy rain that lasted a few days.
I did manage to get him out on his last day here when the system broke up and show him a couple of Golden trevally on the flats but sadly he didn't get a hookup on them, but he did have some great fun with Mac Tuna and Mackerel,he also had a few shots at some big Long Tail tuna and came so close to getting a solid hookup on them.
Small pink surf candies are a great fly when there is so much bait around they stand out from the rest of the bait and rarely get refused.
Spinning reels = fun
