There were some nice fish landed for the morning with only a few kept for the table and the rest released to fight another day.
When the Snapper bite slowed I put him onto some good Mac Tuna off the surface and then down deeper around the bait schools,he also had a shot at some Long Tail tuna but they were very flighty and only had one hit the Snapback but it failed to find the hook.
Many people comment on the Lindy Fish Handling gloves I get anglers to put on when handling small scaled fishes like Tuna,Mackerel and Trevally species,fishes with a heavy scale cover [Snapper,Barramundi and the likes] are far more tolerant to bare hands.
I have spoken to the head Marine Biologist at Under Water World on the Sunshine Coast and the owner of Reef World here in Hervey Bay and both have told me that these species will suffer fatal damage by handling them with bare hands.
I believe if your going to catch and release fish you MUST handle them with the up most care and respect so they survive upon release,it's not much good releasing a fish if it will die a slow painful death from skin infections from bad handling.
After an angler has a pic or two of a species,I like to release the rest in the water which is much better for the fishes well being.
