Winter Barra Tagging

Previous to the very cold winter of 2007 I had tagged a lot of Barra in Lenthalls Dam but it seems none survived the big freeze or none have been recaptured yet.

It wasn't only Lenthalls Dam that lost fish that winter due to the abnormally cold temperatures with Barra and other species dieing in Monduran,Awoonga,Wuruma and other dams all the way into North Queensland.

Bass will eat Barra lures too

Hopefully this winter will not be like 2007 and the tagged fish will go on to grow and move about to give more information on the species growth rates.

These are great fun fish on fly gear!!and the DK Dancer is my my most consistant Barra producer and favourite fly to target them with.

The Fraser Coast Fish Stocking Association can then gain more information on the correct stocking levels for Barramundi and Bass to create a great dual fishery for all to enjoy.

The 3 inch Mad Mullet in the deep and shallow work really well on them too!!as does suspending lures.

Fraser Coast Sportfishing is the only charter operation in Hervey Bay with a boat that complies with Wide Bay Water Corporations restrictions for the Dam and can access Lenthalls Dam as well as the upper reaches of the Burrum river with up to 3 anglers to target Barramundi and Bass on Fly and Lures.
