I met up with Greg at the Gin Gin motel the night before his charter to organise the starting time for next day.
We hit the water around 6am and I took him straight up to the spot I had found fish the day before.
After a few quick tips on cast placement and retrieve method and I had him casting at a snag that produces some good fish for me.
His third cast of the morning with the Lively Lures 130 Arafura Barra landed right where I had advised him to place it and after a few cranks of the reel he came up tight on a nice barra that tried to wrap him in the timber.
After a few tense moments he had the fish out of the snag in some open water where he fought out the rest of the battle.
He was very happy with the result on landing his first ever impoundment Barra and was keen to get into some more.
After a few more location shifts and some more casting adjustments he was onto another fish that was smaller than the first but just as enjoyable for him.
I tried to explain to him the power the bigger fish have and how quickly they can destroy your leader/line, but until you experience it for your self it's hard to imagine.
He then went on to hook another 6 much bigger barra 2 of which we both saw and they were over a meter, that either pulled the hooks or wiped him out in the timber I had him fishing.
Greg I hope the rest of your trip to the dam was successful and you had a safe trip home.
Paul
Update: I asked Greg to let me know how he went on his own the day after the charter and this is what he wrote and his photograph of the fish he landed.
Cheers Paul for the charter to Lake Monduran and the boat load of information that came with it. Hooking up to fish under your guidance was amazing, but being able to put your teachings into practice the next day and catch fish on my own will be something I won't forget for a long time. I managed to hook up to three fish, getting one onboard the boat that came in at 87cm on the brag mat. Doing the charter has saved me years of heart ach to which I thank you.
Hope top catch up in the near future Greg.
Greg thanks mate,I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you went on to boat fish on your own! Well done!!!
No doubt I'll see you on a Barra dam in the future.
Regards Paul
