I have just had the pleasure of fishing Diana Rudolph for four days around the the bay and out at Lenthalls dam for some sweetwater fishing.
Diana is from Florida and is the currently the record holder in the women's class for several species including Tarpon,Permit and Bonefish.
She also works in the Florida Keys Outfitters fly fishing shop and has her own Hells Bay flats fishing boat.
This lady is a very good flyfisher and a lovely person too and she really enjoyed catching 5 new species on fly while fishing here. The pleasure was not all hers as I really enjoyed guiding her during her stay.
Her trip was organized by good mate and my US booking agent Randall Bryett and his lovely wife Kate who operate Go Fish Australia a dedicated Australian fishing travel agency in the USA.
Diana caught Longtail Tuna, Queenfish, Giant Trevallys and hooked but unfortunately lost 2 Goldens just after the take. We also observed them tailing on the flats which she really was intrigued with. Diana also notched up the Aussie "must have" species by catching some Barramundi and Australian Bass in the freshwater.
Without a doubt the highlight of the trip for both Diana and I was the 16kg Longtail she landed. This fish was actually one of the smaller fish in the school that she cast at and really gave her a fight to remember her time in Hervey Bay.
This fish fought to the death and could not be released but it was not wasted and was consumed!
I always enjoy fishing people from other countries and hearing of their experiences and the fishing methods they employ. Diana is a wealth of information and a awesome angler whom might give some fellas a little pinch to the ego.
Most of the fish in the salt were caught on DNA Materials with flies like Bushpigs and Piglets and the Barra on good mates and great Fly tier Gordon Low's flies called Lowy's Flys.
Diana it was an absolute pleasure having you on board and I hope the rest of your trip is pleasant and you get into some more good fish at Port Stephens. Safe travels mate and I hope to see you again soon.
