Golden Trevally also await this period of the tide so they can feed on the flats. Like clockwork as I made my way up over the deep edge on to the flats I sighted those tailing Goldens.

It was a amazing display of this phenomena on this day and after hooking two fish and dropping both I was contented to get my camera and try and catch some pictures to record the event. The Goldens get harassed a lot at times and by trying to fish different spots regularly you can give them a break. They a very special fish that live in a amazing location and I just wish more people would respect and kill less of them. They are not a good table fish particularly at that size (so I have been told) Never have I killed one personally and never will deliberately. A fish like that is to valuable to be caught only once. The Fraser Island region has a world class reputation for its Golden Trevally sight fishery. As a destination that attracts fly anglers from around the world and from within Australia it should be protected from professional and amateurs alike. A no kill fishery would be the best scenario.

After a hour of taking images I managed to get a couple of reasonable digital photos. The photos show a couple of Goldies tailing and if you look close you will see the dark shapes of their companions swimming around them.
I am not sure who won the tuna comp but I left the water with a winners smile.
